Sleep Like a Sage
So many midlife women struggle with sleep — but what if rest didn’t have to be another battle?

What if sleep could feel sacred again?
Many women in their 50s and 60s find themselves wrestling with rest — waking at 3 am, tossing with hot sweats, or feeling unrested no matter how early they get to bed. We're told it’s just "part of getting older" or "part of the menopause", and while some shifts are natural, deep rest is still possible.
In fact, I believe sleep can become even more nourishing in this stage of life — not in spite of your age, but because of the wisdom that comes with it.
I call it “sleeping like a sage.” And I believe every woman can learn how.
How I Glided Through Menopause Symptom-Free
This might surprise you, but I never had the classic menopause symptoms. No hot flushes. No night sweats. No insomnia.
And it wasn’t luck — it was lifestyle. The result of years spent listening to my body, trusting its rhythm, and aligning my life with rest, energy balance, and nourishment. That doesn’t mean I was perfect - far from it. It just means I was present.
I built gentle rituals around sleep, energy, movement and food — and they worked.
Simple Sleep Shifts You Can Try Tonight
Here are a few ways to start sleeping like a sage:
1. Activate the Parasympathetic Nervous System (your rest-and-digest mode):
Try 4-7-8 breathing before bed — inhale for 4, hold for 7, exhale for 8. This calms the heart rate and signals safety to your body.
2. Grounding touch:
Rub the soles of your feet gently with the rounded back of a spoon. It might sound strange, but this ancient acupressure technique helps realign your body’s polarity and settle excess energy — especially if you haven’t walked barefoot on the earth today.
3. Wind down your energy, not just your body:
Your energy field holds onto stress even after your muscles have softened. Gentle movement, acupressure, or energy brushing techniques (which I teach) help clear emotional clutter before sleep.
4. Light matters:
Dim lights early. Use candles or salt lamps. Avoid overhead lighting — it tricks your body into wakefulness.
5. Honour your unique rhythm:
Forget “normal” bedtimes. If you need to shift your routine slightly to meet your body where it is — do it. Sages don't rush the sacred.
A Final Thought
In a world that glorifies doing, choosing rest is radical. And choosing rest as a wise woman is revolutionary. Sleep isn’t a luxury. It’s your right, your medicine, and your pathway home to yourself.
