Bank holidays can be a beautiful breather — or a little bit of chaos. For many of us midlife women, they often mean more time with family, juggling plans, catching up on things we don’t usually get time for… and sometimes, less rest than we’d like. Add in the grey skies and soggy lawns, and you might be starting the week feeling a little off-kilter. So, when you can't step barefoot on the grass, here's a quick & simple act of self-care to get you through and all you need is a spoon!

🥄 The Spoon Hack for Grounding (yes, really)

Your feet are incredibly sensitive to energy. The soles of your feet are rich in nerve endings and energetic pathways — in reflexology, every organ in your body is mapped there. Normally, we’d suggest getting your bare feet on the earth to rebalance. But when that’s not possible, a humble metal spoon can work wonders.

Here’s how:

  1. What to Do
    • Flip a metal tablespoon so the rounded side faces up.
    • Place your bare foot on a chair, stool or your knee so the sole is flat.
    • Gently rub the spoon in slow circles over the arch, heel, and ball of your foot for 1 minute on each side (you can do more if you have time).

  2. Why It Works
Tactile Stimulation – Your feet are rich in nerve endings. Rubbing them activates mechanoreceptors, sending calming signals to your nervous system.
Reflexology & Acupressure – The rounded spoon presses into reflex zones linked to stress relief (especially the solar-plexus point on the arch). That gentle pressure can ease tension and invite a release of endorphins.
Improved Circulation – The massage motion warms the tissues, boosting blood flow and helping your body shift out of “fight-or-flight” mode.
Energy Polarity – In energy-work terms, the spoon’s metal surface helps “polarise” or balance your personal energy field, mimicking the earthing effect of natural elements.

  3. When to Use It
    • During moments of stress at your desk or on the go
    • As a mini-ritual before meditation or sleep
    • Anytime you feel “ungrounded” or heavy

This simple trick helps discharge static energy, reconnects you to your body, and brings a little nervous system regulation after a busy day or weekend.

🌿 Ritual it up (if you’ve got the time):

  • Do it before bed.

  • Add in some lavender oil or your favourite foot balm.

  • Breathe in deeply, and as you exhale, imagine roots growing from your feet.

  • Repeat a little grounding mantra: “I return to myself. I am supported. I am home.”"
